“That’s RISK™ - it’s a game of world domination being played by two men who can’t run their own lives.” -Seinfeld
Seinfeld is one of if not my favorite show of all time. One of the many reasons I love it is because so many of the funniest moments in Seinfeld were moments that I and millions of other people have experienced in our common, everyday lives. Getting a bad haircut, waiting for a table at a restaurant, going to the mall parking garage and other “shows about nothing” reminded us to laugh at funny moments that happen everyday in our lives as they reminded of something we saw on Seinfeld.
The other thing I appreciated about Seinfeld is that EVERYONE played the idiot. While everyone watching would much rather be associated with Jerry and Elaine rather than Kramer or Newman….the fact remains that Jerry and Elaine still found themselves playing the fool or making a dumb mistake. Again the show reminds us of real life. Many hours and millions of dollars are spent every year trying to be a little more in control of life, trying to conquer a little more land in life or trying to find ourselves in charge of a little more in our lives. Yet given enough time – we will all end up like Jerry, Elaine, George, Kramer or maybe even Newman as we go through our lives. We will enjoy some sweet victories - like being the model for a cowboy on a billboard – or we will suffer some defeats – like being told NO SOUP FOR YOU!
Life is a journey. There are left turns, right turns and times where we are moving forward, backward or even sideways. We want to live our best life – in fitness, finances, relationships or many other parts of our life. We may try to dominate or control our life in order to achieve that best life, but that path eventually leads to someone in the subway upending your game board because you made fun of the Ukraine.
We need to remember that we are but STEWARDS of the life we’ve been given. Our lives are not ours to do with as we please, but it is pleasing to give our valuable lives away in a valuable way.
The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away. -Pablo Picasso
The best thing to do with the best things in life is to give them away. -Dorothy Day
